Kendrapara: Palpable tension prevailed at Balana village under Marshaghai police station Sunday after a village youth, who was nabbed by Mahakalapada police Saturday from canal bridge on Paradip-Daitary Expressway for his alleged involvement in a theft case, escaped from police custody and was found hanging Sunday in a building at a Dalitsahi.
The incident led the irate villagers to stage a road blockade at Balana Chowk on Jamboo-Marshaghai road, while the authorities suspended inspector-in-charge of Mahakalapada police station Shyamaghana Behera.
According to Kendrapara Additional SP Arun Kumar Jena, a tractor driver Abhinas Paital alias Musha allegedly committed a theft from the house of one Santilata Samal April 28. Musha allegedly stole two Android mobile phones, a gold chain, a ring and cash worth `11,000. Later, Santilata lodged an FIR against Musha with Mahakalapada police who registered a theft case (no-45/18) against Musha and started an investigation.
