Baripada, Dec 5: Even as Baripada police have been in a soup over the alleged custodial death of a youth, a man died in an under-construction building of the 5th Battalion of Orissa State Armed Police (OSAP) in Lamiposi area in Mayurbhanj Saturday.
The family of deceased Sushant Kumar Singh of Purunagaon under Nilagiri police station in Balasore district cried foul over the incident and alleged that it was a case of murder.
According to police, Sushant was engaged as a supervisor of the construction activities of the Police Housing Board since 2009. He was also supervising the construction of a building for the commandant office of the 5th Battalion of OSAP in Lamiposi.
Friday night, Sushant had a telephonic conversation with his family members, but after that his mobile phone was switched off. Saturday morning, some people working at the site telephoned Sushant’s family and told them that he was unwell and needed immediate medical attention.
However, before his family and relatives could reach the spot, Sushant had been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Baripada and declared dead on arrival by doctors, his family members said.
Blood was oozing out from his mouth, nostrils and ears while there was hit-mark on his neck, they added.
Tensions ran high on the hospital premises as the family members alleged that Sushant was murdered.
Later, Sushant’s daughter Swagatika lodged an FIR in this regard at Baripada police station.
Police registered a case of murder and seized the body. “An investigation has been launched into the incident,” said assistant sub0inspector Puspanajali Pradhan. PNN
