Kunarmunda: In a shocking incident, a man killed his wife and subsequently committed suicide over a family feud at Andhari village under Biramitrapur police limits of this block in Sundargarh district.
The deceased have been identified as Sailesh Kandulana (45) and his wife Pyari Kandulana (42). Even as the incident occurred Tuesday night, it came to fore Wednesday morning. Neighbours spotted the bodies and alerted the police who reached the village and launched a probe.
Preliminary investigation revealed the murder was the fallout of a family dispute, Biramitrapur IIC DP Dash said, adding a further probe into the incident was on. Police seized a bloodstained axe from the spot.
According to police, Sailesh was an alcoholic and often created nuisance in the family. Fed up with his behaviour, the couple’s two sons lived elsewhere.
A heated argument ensued between the couple Tuesday night. Losing his cool, Sailesh in an inebriated state hacked Pyari to death with an axe. After coming back to sense, he hanged himself, the police said.
Neighbours grew suspicious after the couple did not come out of the house Wednesday morning. They broke open the door and found Pyari lying dead in a pool of blood while Sailesh’s body was found hanging from the ceiling in another corner of the house.
The bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem in the presence of the couple’s elder son. PNN
