Man fined Rs 1lakh for organising feast, violating Covid norms in Deogarh

Deogarh: Police imposed a fine of Rs1,00,000 on a person for treating guests invited to his daughter’s marriage ceremony with a feast, flouting Covid guidelines at Pururagarh in Deogarh district Wednesday.

According to a source, a marriage ceremony was underway at the residence of Surjya Kumar Sahu, a resident of Purunagarh area. On this occasion, a feast was organised for the guests.

Sahu had obtained permission from the police for the marriage ceremony. He had mentioned in the application that the ceremony would have 50 guests and they would be treated with food.

But on the day of marriage, the police were informed that Sahu is treating over 250 guests at the venue with a feast.

A team led by sub-divisional police officer Pratyush Kumar Moahapatra and sub-inspector Pratap Dalei swooped down on the venue and found gross violation of Covid guidelines.

At the time of giving permission, police had directed Sahu to hang a list of guests on his outer wall. The police found no such list anywhere. This apart, the police also found that the guests instead of being treated with food packets were having their foods sitting in the venue.

The police asked Sahu to stop the feast and levied a fine of Rs1,00,000 on him for violating Covid guidelines.
