Sambalpur: Police Monday recovered the mutilated body of a man from an abandoned well at Bhulapada area in Kuchinda of Sambalpur district.
The body of a man, with several injury marks, was spotted floating by locals after foul smell emanated from it.
The deceased has been identified as Rama Das Kua (40).
According to sources, some locals spotted the body floating inside the well early this morning and alerted the police about the same.
On being informed, cops reached the spot and retrieved the body from the well. Police have also initiated an investigation into the case.
Though the exact reason behind the man’s death is yet to be ascertained, prima facie investigation suggested that the man was attacked on his head with a sharp weapon, said the police.
It is also suspected that Rama might have been murdered over past enmity, the police added.
