Jeypore, Jan 22: A local court Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a man after convicting him of killing his nephew over a land dispute. Handing down the verdict, additional district judge Laxmidhar Biswal also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on convict Balram Sira in default of which he would have to undergo six months of additional jail term.
According to the case diary, Balram of Dengapadar under Borigumma block had a land dispute with his nephew Mansingh Sira. He had a spat with Mansingh March 7, 2013 following which he attacked the latter with a knife.
He repeatedly stabbed his nephew, killing him on the spot. The victim’s son later lodged a complaint with Borigumma police. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Taking all evidence and statements recorded by the witnesses into consideration, the court convicted Balram as guilty and handed down the punishment.
