Nuapada: Police Sunday arrested a betel shopkeeper on charge of murdering a senior clerk posted in SP office. The accused was identified as Sobha Jagat (42) while the deceased was identified as Siba Sahu. A case was registered and the accused produced in court, sources said.
“Leave your wife in my house and she will sleep with me. I will give you `2,000 for it”. This sentence took the life of the clerk,’ SP Madkar Sandeep revealed the murder plot to the media Sunday.
According to police, Siba and Sobharam were neighbours. Siba June 25 allegedly called Sobharam and asked him to hand over his wife for `2,000. Sobharam was furious on hearing the line, and planned to eliminate Siba forever. As per the plan, Sobharam called Siba to an isolated place on the pretext of some work and subsequently attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon leading to his death on the spot.
Later, Sobharam dumped the body and looted the gold chain and a bracelet and fled. However, family members of Sobharam refuted the allegations made by police. ‘Siba was like my elder brother who always looked to me like his sister,’ Sobharam’s wife. The police are making false allegations against my husband and trapping him, she added.
Meanwhile, Congress district unit president Ghasiram Majhi claimed the police made false allegations and demanded a crime branch inquiry into the incident. PNN
