Hinjilicut: Police Tuesday arrested a man on charges of raping a widow on the false promise of marriage. The accused has been identified as Kanhu Gouda, 28, of Thuruburai village under Hinjili police limits of Ganjam district.
According to the complainant, the victim had been staying alone after the death of her husband. Taking advantage, the accused, a relative brother-in-law of the victim, lured her into a relationship and raped her on several occasions on the pretext of marriage.
He impregnated her after which she delivered a baby boy. However, when she insisted on marriage, Kanhu refused to marry her following which the victim lodged a complaint at police station.
Acting on the victim’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested Kanhu. He was produced in court and later remanded him in custody, investigating officer Mamata Samantaray said.
