Dhenkanal: A person was critically injured after a wild elephant attacked him at Ankarantipur village under Siminai panchayat in Odapada block of Dhenkanal district Tuesday night.
The injured identified as Srinibas Dehury was asleep when the tusker broke into his house and dragged him into the open. The pachyderm then stabbed Dehury in the stomach with its tusk.
Later, villagers rushed Dehury to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and have staged a road blockade on National Highway 55 since Wednesday morning demanding compensation.
Till last reports came in, forest officials have reached the spot to pacify the agitators.
