Dharmagarh: A man of Sanachera under Kegaon police limits in Kalahandi district was killed by three youths Tuesday while he was trying to rescue his minor daughter kidnapped by the latter.
The deceased was identified as Dayanand Majhi, a daily wager of Colony Pada in Sanachera. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem while registering a case.
Efforts are on to arrest the culprits, Kegaon police station IIC Dillip Kumar Jena said.
The incident has triggered shockwaves as well as tension in the area. Police said a youth Ashok Nial of the same village kidnapped the 15-year-old daughter of Majhi with the help of two of his accomplices Sunday.
Majhi accompanied by his son left on a motorcycle to trace his daughter and bring her back home. They scoured every possible place and finally traced the girl with the three youths in Chandotara of neighbouring Bolangir district.
They intercepted the youths and were trying to rescue the girl from their captivity when a scuffle ensued among them. The youths brutally assaulted the father-son duo and left them critically injured before fleeing the scene.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them in an ambulance to a local primary health centre. The duo was later shifted to Dharmagarh hospital.
They were then referred to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital and later to a hospital in Bissam Katak after their condition further deteriorated.
Doctors at Bissam Katak hospital said their condition was grave and advised their family to shift them to Cuttack hospital. The family members were bringing them home due to lack of money and were planning to shift them to Cuttack Tuesday but Majhi succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The family kept the body outside the house of prime accused Nial and informed police. PNN
