Cuttack: Mangalabag police, which is carrying out Operation Medical Broker, arrested Mikhyal Nayak of Jay Maa Mangala Basti at Medical road Sunday for allegedly diverting patients from SCB Medical College and Hospital here to private nursing homes in the city.
Nearly fifteen patients from the SCBMCH were being sent daily to nearby private nursing homes and private diagnostic centres in the area by Nayak, said police.
The accused used to wander in and around Badambadi bus stand, casualty and outdoor department of SCBMCH and lure the patients coming from far flung areas to the city on the pretext to provide better health facilities at affordable prices.
He used to send them to private nursing homes in Zobra and Kathagola Sahi area. He was also earning commission from diagnostic centres here for diverting patients for ultrasonography and MRI tests.
Preliminary investigation reveals he was earning around `50,000 per month for luring patients. He allegedly used to carry out his activities along with some corrupt doctors of the SCBMCH.
During interrogation Nayak confirmed about various brokers operating in the area.
He was arrested and produced in a court and further investigations into the case are on, said DCP Sanjeev Arora.
Police had nabbed three brokers from the outdoor department of SCBMCH and produced them before the court September 27 and 28. In a similar incident police had arrested one more broker from the area October 5.
