Rayagada, MAY 26: A man pushed his pregnant wife off a running train near Rauli station in Tikiri of Rayagada district Tuesday after the woman tried to restrain him from talking with an unknown girl while travelling.
The victim sustained grievous injuries after being thrown out of the train and developed labour pain. She delivered a stillborn baby on the spot.
According to report, the woman identified as Sarojini Kerketa (25), daughter of Mahalik Kerketa of Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district, had married Suroj Kerketa (30) a year ago. Suroj works as a sales executive at a private company.
Sarojini along with her husband had come to visit a relative’s house at Koraput Sunday. Tuesday, they boarded Samaleswari express at Koraput to go to Rourkela.
While travelling by the train, Sarojini noticed her husband talking with an unknown girl in the same coach and tried to restrain him from doing so.
Enraged, Suroj pushed his wife off the running train near Rauli station.
However, no one was aware of the incident. After a few minutes, some railway employees, who were going to check the tracks, spotted her writhing in pain and immediately informed the railway protection force.
RPF inspector Tripati Rao directed the railway employees to bring the woman to Rauli station. After she was taken to Rauli, she was sent to Rayagada station by a railway ambulance.
However, the woman was not provided any treatment immediately at the Rayagada station. Some women employees, who were present there, did not help her and rather stood like silent spectators.
In order to take her to Rayagada district headquarters hospital, a 108 ambulance was called to Rayagada station. But, the ambulance arrived 40 minutes late. She was then taken to Rayagada DHH.
RPF inspector Rao recorded her statement at around 5 pm. No case was registered by RPF as the place where the incident occurred comes under the jurisdiction of Tikiri police. Rao said Tikiri police would be asked to register a case in this connection and take further action.
