Baliapal: In yet another shameful incident of sexual abuse of a minor, a man raped his four-year-old cousin at Karua under Singla police limits and Basta block of Balasore district.
Police have registered a case and detained accused Sanjay Das, 34, in this connection, stated Singla SDPO Ranjit Prusty. The accused is being interrogated and will be arrested if the allegations about his involvement in the crime are proved, Prusty added.
The August 17 incident came to light after the survivor’s grandfather lodged a complaint at Singla police station Monday.
The complainant said the girl was playing at her courtyard when the accused called the girl to fetch some water from a tube-well to his house. The girl’s mother also asked her to take the water to her cousin.
The youth took the girl inside his house and brutally raped her when she went with the water. He even inflicted cut marks and injuries all over her body during the act. The girl’s mother later traced the girl to the house of the accused.
The girl narrated her ordeal to her mother after which the family took up the matter with the village committee.
As the committee did not take any action, the family went to the police station seeking justice and also admitted her to Basta hospital. They also lodged a complaint with the Childline chief Prasant Rout before lodging a police complaint.
