Dhenkanal: The district administration Wednesday opened a mango market at Mahisapat Palishri Mela field here in this district, known as the mango hub of the state.
Set up jointly by the district horticulture department, the Livelihood Mission, ORMAS and the agriculture department, the market was inaugurated by local MLA Saroj Kumar Samal.
The market, with 20 stalls of different varieties of mangoes, drew a large number of buyers on the first day of its opening. The market will remain opened till June 30, it was learnt.
“The objective of opening the market is to create opportunities for the local mango farmers. More varieties of mangoes will be available in the coming days,” horticulture department deputy director Digambhar Panda said. Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, CDMO Basudev Behera, Sadar block BDO Saroj Kumar Datt and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
