Bhubaneswar: Manisha Oram scored a brilliant hat-trick Thursday to help Hockey Gangpur beat Hockey Chandigarh 4-2 and enter the semifinals of the VIIIth Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championships (Division A) at Hisar, Haryana, Thursday.
Manisha broke the deadlock to give a 1-0 lead to Hockey Gangpur in the 23rd minute. Mannu restored parity for the Chandigarh eves 10 minutes later. However, their joy was shortlived as Gangpur took the lead again in the next minute through Aten Topno.
But Chandigarh fought back again to level the score again at 2-2 in the 41st minute with Nikita finding the back of the net. It was Manisha (52nd and 58th) who struck back-to-back goals to ensure her side’s win.
Hockey Gangpur will face Hockey Haryana, who hammered Hockey Punjab 5-0 in the other quarterfinal, in their last four contest Saturday.
Bajrangi triumph
Bajrangi of Nuapada emerged champions of the Baba Bisweshwar cricket tournament after beating Haraparvati in the final by seven wickets at Bhandari Pokhari in Bhadrak, Wednesday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Haraparvati scored 84 for nine in the allotted 16 overs. In reply, Bajrangi completed the chase in just 15 overs losing seven wickets in the process.
