Rourkela: A man was found hanging from the ceiling of his house at Vivekananda slum in Rourkela town of Sundargarh district Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Vikash Mukhi.
On being informed, police reached the spot and brought down the body and sent it for postmortem.
According to Sasmita Mukhi, the deceased’s sister-in-law, Vikash’s wife Sarita has been staying at her parents’ house for the last four months. “His wife and in-laws had since been torturing him mentally. In connection with the case filed by his wife, police had picked him up last night and tortured him,” she alleged.
“Vikash seemed to be under severe mental duress following his release. He made a video narrating his plight,” Sasmita added.
Meanwhile, Vikash’s family members alleged that he was murdered.
When asked about the incident, DSP Asim Panda said it is too early to say something about the cause of death. “We are waiting for the postmortem report. The investigation will proceed on basis of the report,” he added.
