Cuttack, April 1: Manu Singh and Sobha Nayak won the men’s and women’s titles in the marathon organised by Cuttack District Athletic Association here Wednesday to celebrate Utkal Diwas. The marathon was flagged off from Barabati Fort gate by top police official Praveen Kumar.
Results: Men’s (top 3): Manu Singh, Durgaballav Rao, Manoranjan Behera; (Women’s): Sobha Nayak, Tabassum Ara Begum, Hemalata Bhuyan; (Junior Boys): Jayasen Raita, Roshan Minz, Polikar Minz; (Junior Girls): Samsad Ara Begum, Namita Pradhan, Jayanti Behera; (Sub-junior Boys): Bhimsen Janka, Sk. Farid, Tulu Patra; (Sub-junior Girls): Sabita Sethi, A Shrabani and Nazia Parveen.
Chess tourney
The Srusti Chess Festival will be organised at the Srusti Academy of Management in Patia Bhubaneswar April 3 to 5. There will be two segments of competitors — under-9 and U-19 (Open and Girls). The top two finishers in the U-9 and top four from U-19 will represent the state in the nationals. The prize money of the tournament is Rs 60,000.
Angul triumph
Manoj scored a double hat-trick as Angul crushed Bolangir by 10-1 in the Nalco Cup state hockey championship here Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium. The other goals were scored by DP Kujur, A Lakra, Jugal and Asish Eekka. In another match, Cuttack got walkover as Rourkela Steel Pant were absent.
Rapid chess
Orissa Grandmaster Debashis Das took part in a simultaneous chess competition with 25 junior players at the SR Patnaik Chess Centre in Bhubaneswar, Wednesday. The exhibition matches were organised as part of Utkal Diwas celebrations. Debashis emerged victorious on most of the boards quite easily.
