Rourkela: The Odisha police along with Central Reserve Police Force busted a Maoist camp in Chandiposh area Thursday night.
According to the Additional Director General of Police, Operations, R P Koche, a combing patrol party jointly were conducting combing operation in Rourkela’s Champajharan Reserve Forest area when they came to know about the movement 20 Maoists.
The combing party along with District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operations Group cordoned off the area and started search operations.
He informed that the police recovered four tiffin bombs, 21 bundles of codex wire, two bundles of electric loose wire, Maoist uniforms and other miscellaneous items were recovered from the spot.
However, knowing about the presence of the forces the Maoists fled the camp site before the police could locate their camp. It is being suspected that the camp was inhabited by Maoist cadres of SDS Division (Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundergarh) along with Maoist leader Samarjee alias Anmol.
Koche said, “This operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police. He will be monitoring the further combing operation as well. We suspect that these Maoists were of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha, as well.”
A Maoist commander in July identified as Jaggu, was gunned down during an encounter with police in Chhattisgarh.
