Bhubaneswar: Former director general of police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik Tuesday filed a criminal defamation case against former IG Anadi Sahu in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here. The case was filed under section 500, 501 and 502 of Indian Penal Code.
Earlier, Sahu had made allegations that Marik had links with mobsters Dhalasamant brothers, facing several criminal charges in judicial custody, and taken around `2.5crore from the duo.
Marik told Orissa Post that allegations levelled by Sahu are baseless, wild and fabricated. “Who knew Sahu a year ago? He is seeking cheap publicity out of it and developing his political career by slinging mud at me,” Marik said.
Marik believed that Anadi Sahu has been taking out his past animosity towards him in a dirty way. “During 1993-94 when I was superintendent of police in Bhubaneswar, there was no death from illicit liquor. However, the same year, in Cuttack, which was under Sahu, around 100 people had died.”
When contacted Anadi Sahu said let the court decide what is what. “I’ve no qualms in saying a corrupt man corrupt.” Earlier, Anadi Sahu had told the media that Marik had nexus with the D-brothers and had taken around `2.5 crore from them. They have also shouldered the expenditure of Marik’s son’s reception party. Marik dared Sahu to prove how money changed hands. “Can he say from which account was money transpired? I have only one bank account contrary to concoction being made by Sahu,” Marik said.
Sahu said he would not go into the details but has evidence of the money transfer and will produce before court. He denied his allegation is a publicity stunt.
