Nigamjyoti Pathy is the visionary entrepreneur behind Namaste Baripada, a venture born from a lifelong passion for culinary arts. Amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, founder Nigamjyoti and his brother channelled their love for cooking into a cloud kitchen, transforming a period of uncertainty into a thriving business. What began as a small initiative to serve the community has evolved into a symbol of resilience and authentic flavour. Under Nigamjyoti’s leadership, Namaste Baripada has grown into a celebrated destination, blending traditional local tastes with a modern spirit, driven by the simple joy of feeding people well.
What was the core vision behind launching Namaste Baripada, and how has it evolved?
Honestly, it did not begin with a grand plan. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our family businesses faced serious challenges, and we needed a new path forward. My brother and I have always loved cooking and serving people, so starting a cloud kitchen felt natural. I focused on traditional Indian dishes while he specialised in Chinese cuisine, often blending classic flavours with modern twists. With strong support from people associated with our earlier ventures, our food gradually gained popularity, orders increased, and Namaste Baripada slowly grew into the brand it is today.
How do you differentiate Namaste Baripada in a competitive local market?
What truly sets us apart is our ability to blend traditional flavours with modern dishes. For us, it is not just about serving food but creating an experience where people taste something familiar yet refreshingly different. When we started, Baripada already had well-established restaurants, and gaining recognition was our biggest challenge. However, over time, the quality and uniqueness of our food began to speak for itself. Gradually, our dishes became our identity, and strong word-of-mouth appreciation has become our biggest strength in the local market.

How do you balance pricing strategy with maintaining quality standards?
Balancing prices has always been a challenge for us, especially with constant market fluctuations. We cannot price our dishes the same way as restaurants in bigger cities like Cuttack or Bhubaneswar, as it would not suit our local customers. At the same time, maintaining quality is non-negotiable for us. So, we focus on keeping our pricing reasonable and accessible for the people of Baripada while ensuring that the ingredients and taste of our food are never compromised.
How has been your journey so far? Are there plans for expansion or franchising in the near future?
The journey has certainly had its share of challenges, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing people enjoy our food and return for more continues to motivate us. At present, we are focusing on making our business model more sustainable while planning for expansion and franchising. Our goal is to introduce our dishes to a wider audience across the country. At the same time, we are committed to preserving the authenticity of our recipes so that every outlet delivers the true taste and experience of Namaste Baripada.
As an entrepreneur, why did you choose to enter this line of business? What advice will you give to new entrants?
I chose this fi eld because of my genuine love for cooking and serving people. It was never just a business decision; it came from the heart. My advice to new entrants is simple—follow what you are truly passionate about and good at. With time, dedication turns passion into expertise. For those entering the food industry, it is important to keep learning, understand different cuisines, and study what people enjoy. Building your business around that understanding is what ultimately leads to long-term success.
