Cuttack: Rice meant for cooking food under midday meal (MDM) scheme at an upper primary school at Bhayarpur in Jagatpur police limits has been sold illegally and the way the transactions took place has been recorded and doing rounds on the social media.
Sources said, Jitan Sahu, a local youth, raised his voice of protest when the rice was being disposed of illegally by four persons and recorded the transaction on his mobile phone.
Sahu alleged that four persons from his village had warned him of dire consequences after the video clip went viral. Sahu lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
The villagers, on the other hand, appealed to the district collector to take measures to stop the pilferage of MDM rice. Besides, they demanded stringent action against the four accused involved in selling of rice. They also sent the copies of their complaint to Salipur block development officer, district education officer and deputy commissioner of police for necessary action.
According to the complaint lodged by Sahu, the four accused were selling MDM rice at the upper primary school at around 5pm July 9 when he went to the school and protested the illegal activity. He is also reported to have clandestinely recorded the act.
Soon after Sahu posted the video online, the four accused threatened to kill him and throw bombs at his shop. Frightened by the threats, Sahu lodged a complaint with Jagatpur police.
Jagatpur inspector-in-charge Anil Kumar Beuria said a probe is underway into the matter.
District collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra also promised the villagers to conduct an investigation into the matter.
