Bhubaneswar, March 15: The Dr Abhin Chandra Homoeopathy Medical College Hospital in the city is again in the news for the wrong reasons due to defunct ultrasound and X-ray machines.
Hospital authorities cite unavailability of staff as an excuse for the machines lying defunct. Other high-end medical equipment is also not being used at the hospital for lack of staff.
“The college has written to authorities for recruitment of technicians to operate the equipment, but nothing has been done yet. A bigger concern for the hospital is the acute shortage of doctors and paramedics, which frankly is more important than defunct machines,” said a faculty member seeking anonymity.
The hospital is battling an existentiality crisis with a sharp drop in patients over the years. “The hospital is not just one-of-its-kind in the state but also in the country. But it has lost its earlier glory due to several reasons. The medical college is not performing as it should, despite having the potential,” the faculty said.
