Bhubaneswar: The stupendous win by the Indian hockey team against Canada and its storming into the quarter finals of the Men’s Hockey World Cup here a day before made the second day of the street extravaganza -Patha Utsav- a sporty one.
Students from Sports Hostel of Kalinga Stadium exhibited their hockey skills on Janpath even as the crowd was seen cheering the young players. While local junior hockey team players utilised the stretch for routine practice and warm-up sessions, others loved to play football, badminton and roller-skating on the stretch.
People also danced to the tunes of some Indian Idol singers and witnessed a jaw-dropping performance by the famous Prince Dance Group.
“We are planning to make Patha Utsav a regular event after the completion of the road beautification work,” said Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
Culture and Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda said, “Not many people were aware about the beginning of the second edition of Patha Utsav last Sunday. However, this time the excitement is felt and the people’s energy is palpable. I guess India’s victory against Canada Saturday has pumped up everyone.”
An India-Pakistan Aman Dosti stall was also put up at Patha Utsav Sunday. Several dignitaries visited the space and hoped for peace between India and Pakistan through sports.
‘AWHAN’, a street play, was organised by the volunteers of the centre for child and woman development (CCWD) and Sanjog to sensitise the audience about eradication of gender violence.
