Nayagarh: Trinath Das, 64, a mentally unstable man of Nathiapalla village under Odagaon block in Nayagarh district, has ended up at the receiving end of the social security department’s insensitivity.
His family has been left in the lurch as both old-age pension and physically handicapped pension elude Trinath. With no source of income and social security, his wife has taken upon herself the responsibility of the family and Trinath’s treatment. With much agony, the family ekes out a living with whatever his wife earns from doing odd jobs.
Trinath’s family comprises his wife and two children. His son studies in a local school while his daughter takes care of him. She also does all household chores while her mother is out for work.
When he was young, Trinath struggled hard for a living. However, things turned worse after he fell down during a stunt show and injured his head. Since then, he lost his mental stability and is under the care of his wife and daughter.
Due to financial constraints, he was deprived of treatment that worsened his condition. The family has been running from pillar to post for help, but to no avail.
Earlier, the district collector had assured of old-age pension for Trinath. However, the collector’s assurance remained on pen and paper as no pension has been given to Trinath till date.
Locals sympathised with the family and demanded the administration take notice of Trinath’s plight and provide him with proper treatment and pension under old-age scheme. PNN
