Bhubaneswar: The fifth edition of Orissa POST Mettle Meet-2023 will witness the participation of some more institutions in Junior and Senior categories for the first time. These participants are very excited to be part of the quizzing extravaganza and are preparing hard to grab the grand prize.
A total of 74 teams are taking part in the mega event amongst which the new teams are: Stewart School (Bhubaneswar), Christ College (Cuttack), Salipur College (Cuttack), Deepika English Medium School (Rourkela) and VIMSAR (Burla). Orissa POST spoke to some new participants and asked them about their strategies. Abishek Samuel Patro, a Class XI student of Stewart School, Cuttack, said, “We are excited as well as nervous about the event. We, as a team, have divided different topics of study among ourselves and are preparing accordingly.”
Similarly, Manoj Kumar Behera, a Plus III third year Science student of Salipur College, said, “Participating in a grand competition like Mettle Meet where top educational institutes of the state are in the race is big thing for us and we will try to give our best.” Punyatoya Mishra, a Plus III third-year Arts student of Christ College, said, “We will play with no pressure as we are completely new. We are focusing on current affairs of recent times and also using the internet for watching quizzes of previous editions.” Arjya Sarathi Swain, a Class XII Science student of English Medium School, Rourkela said, “We are preparing ourselves by dividing the subjects and categories like general knowledge, current affairs, History and Science among four of us.” Tejesh Banka, a fourth-year MBBS student of VIMSAR, Burla, said that they are a little nervous because they had watched the previous edition videos. “We can say that it will be tough task for us but we are preparing our best for it, he added.
Mettle Meet, a quiz initiative, was launched by Odisha’s only home-grown English daily Orissa POST in 2016. It was done to revive the art of quizzing in the state. Mettle Meet 2023 will be the fifth edition of the event. Since its inception, Mettle Meet has created a huge buzz across Odisha and today it is an event that the students eagerly wait for. The high standards of quizzing, the fervour of the competition makes it a standout event among the students of Odisha. It is a competition where knowledge is not the only criteria, but knowledge combined with common sense is.
