Bhanjanagar: A pall of gloom descended Chedabhumi village under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district after the body of a migrant worker, who was electrocuted in Kerala, reached the village three days after his death, Sunday.
He was identified as Rajendra Sethi (32). A few years back, Rajendra’s father had died in a similar manner in Sorada. The deceased is now survived by his elderly mother, widowed wife and three minor children.
The death of both the father and the son due to electrocution spread fear among the family members. According to family, Rajendra was the breadwinner of the family after the death of his father. He decided to go to Kerala, eight months back, after being lured by a middleman with fat wages. After his arrival in Kerala, he was engaged as a mason.
He was supposed to return home in a few days and had booked his ticket. However, fate had something else written for him. While working in a construction site, he along with two others came in contact with a live wire. His employers rescued the three and admitted them to a local hospital. However, Rajendra succumbed during treatment Friday. After three days, his body arrived in the village.
The family is left in a lurch with no breadwinner. Locals sympathised with the bereaved family and demanded that the administration take notice of the plight of the family.
