Rayagada: A minor boy died while five of a family fell sick after consuming toxic food at Uparkodinga in Bankamba panchayat in Tikiri police limits in Rayagada district Monday.
According to sources, family members of Bhagirathi Jhodia felt giddiness and uncomfortable after taking food Monday night.
Neighbours rescued the ailing family and rushed them to Tikiri community health centre (CHC). However, the doctors at the CHC declared nine-year-old son of Jhodia brought dead.
After treatment, the family members were shifted to Rayagada district headquarters hospital. Tikiri police reached the CHC and registered an unnatural death case.
Toxic food could be the cause of the death of the minor boy, said the inspector-in-charge Sugyani Sahoo. An investigation into the matter is underway, she added.
