Kuanrmunda: In what could be termed as a recall of the Kunduli gangrape in Koraput district last year, an 11-year-old girl was gangraped by two persons at Talsera village under Biramitrapur police limits in Sundargarh district, who subsequently left her to die in a graveyard on a bone-chilling Monday night.
On learning the incident, police swung into action and rescued the girl lying unconscious on the burial ground Tuesday morning. She was admitted to Biramitrapur government hospital following which the minor was again shifted to the Rourkela Government Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
Soon after, police conducted simultaneous raids and arrested the two accused who were on the run after the incident. The two have been identified as Chotu Sahu (24) of Talsera village and his friend Dhanu Sahu (25).
Police said the incident occurred while the youths were conducting a cultural programme in the village. The girl had gone to watch the programme along with other villagers. Taking advantage of the situation, the two accused lured the minor and accosted her from the crowd. Then, they gagged her and took her to a forest near the village where they raped the minor throughout the night. Consequently, the child lost consciousness.
Suspecting that she had died, the two dumped the victim in the grave yard and fled. Family members grew apprehensive when she did not return home till Tuesday morning. During a search, they found her in an unconscious state in the cemetery and alerted the police.
