Minor girl drugged, gangraped by five youths in Balasore

Balasore: In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl from West Bengal was allegedly drugged and gangraped by five youths in Bhogarai block in Balasore district.

The matter came to light after the resident of the Bhogarai spotted the girl lying in an unconscious state Saturday morning.

The locals informed the police and rushed the girl to Bhogarai primary health centre (PHC). After preliminary treatment, she was later shifted her to Jaleswar community health centre (CHC) after her condition worsened. Meanwhile, the police reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the girl.

According to police, five youths, whose identities are yet be ascertained, lured the girl and drugged her. When she fell unconscious, they took her to an isolated place where they took turns to rape her. Later, the youths dumped the girl on the roadside and fled the spot.

Reportedly, all the five accused involved in the crime are absconding after the incident. However, it is yet to ascertain how and in what situation the girl reached the place.

Based on the victim’s complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the suspects.

“Medical examination of the survivor has been conducted in presence of police today, said medical officer-in-charge, Dr Kamalakanta Jena at the centre.

“As per the preliminary reports, the girl hails from Ramnagar area in West Bengal. Her medical examination has already been done. On the basis of the medical reports further investigation will be done,” said a police official.

It may be pertinent to mention here that a Kolkata woman was allegedly gangraped for over 10 days at Konark in Puri district in the month of October this year.

The victim was held captive in a room at Konark Market Complex, about 2km away from the Sun Temple and allegedly forced into prostitution.

The incident came to light after the woman in her late twenties managed to slip out of the room and screamed for help from the terrace. She was rescued by locals and police with the help of fire brigade personnel, who broke open the door of the room.

A native of Howrah district, she was escorted to Konark by a middleman who promised her a job, the sources added. Later, the police detained two persons in connection with the case.
