Bhubaneswar: A minor girl allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Bharatpur area under Khandagiri police station of Bhubaneswar Wednesday afternoon. She reportedly took the extreme step after her father scolded her for being in a romantic relationship with a boy.
The deceased has been identified as Sonali Behera. She was studying in class X at a government high school.
Sources said, Sonali’s father Santosh, who is a daily labourer, came to know about his daughter’s affair with a boy from their locality. He scolded Sonali Tuesday night and warned her to stay away from the boy.
Wednesday morning, when Santosh and his wife had gone on work, Sonali allegedly hanged herself from the fan with the help of a rope. Santosh found her hanging from the fan after returning home.
Santosh immediately took her to the nearest hospital, but the doctor declared her brought dead.
On being informed, the Kandagiri police reached the hospital, recovered the body and registered a suicide case. The body of the girl will be handed over to her family after postmortem.
