Puri: In a shocking incident, a newborn baby, delivered by a minor girl, was sold to a betel shop owner for Rs 50,000 by two employees of Nimapada Square Medical in this district.
After getting information, the district child protection officer (DCPO) and Nimapara police swung into action and launched a probe.
According to sources, a minor girl was admitted to the government hospital for delivery. The two employees who helped the girl in the delivery reportedly took the baby and sold it to a shopkeeper for Rs 50,000.
The matter came to the fore after an eyewitness approached the CWC and lodged a complaint.
When contacted, both DCPO Manoj Tripathy and Nimapara IIC Harmohan Nayak said that a probe was on.
Meanwhile medical in-charge Ramani Ranjan Sahu said he was unaware of any such incident and would look into the matter.
