Bhubaneswar: Bike borne miscreants struck terror among morning walkers in Chandrasekharpur and Nandankanan area in the city Friday morning. The miscreants in five different incidents attacked several morning-walkers especially senior citizens at different places under Chandrasekharpur police station and Nanadankanan police station limits. The series of looting incidents laid bare the hollow claims by the Commissionerate Police about being successful in maintaining law and order in the city. It poses serious question on the much hyped drive against criminals in the city.
In the first incident, a non-Odia housewife, Subhada Roy, who has been staying along with her family at the Royal Lagoon Plaza under Nandankanan Police station limits, was attacked by five miscreants who came on two Pulsar motor cycles. The lady was going towards Nandankanan for a morning walk when the looters attacked her. The miscreants, armed with sharp weapons and gun, threatened her and snatched away her gold chain and ring worth lakhs.
Similarly, a-26-year youth identified as Nishant Mishra living in Naharkanta area was attacked by the miscreants leaving behind the victim with severe injuries in his head and arms. Mishra reportedly used to visit his sister’s residence at Premier Plaza in Patia often. Mishra had gone to his sister’s place Thursday. While going back home to Jajpur, he noticed the masked miscreants and suspecting their motive tried to run back to the apartment. However, the looters chased him and succeeded in nabbing him before he reached the apartment. They mercilessly beat Mishra with iron rods leaving his hand fractured. He also sustained severe head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private medical college and hospital here.
The looters also threatened a person and lady living nearby with a gun when they rushed to help Mishra. The lady was left with a broken nose by a stone thrown by the miscreants. They snatched away Rs 5000, a gold chain and a ring.
In another incident, the bike borne miscreants looted gold chain, a pair of ear rings, finger ring and other jewelries of one Gayatri Muduli who is a resident of Phsae-7 in Shailashree Vihar area. The miscreants also attacked her husband, Bhavagrahi Beura, who tried to help her with sword.
Two other incidents the same bike-borne miscreants attacked morning walkers at VIM Colony in Shailashree Vihar and the NABARD officers’ colony at BDA in Chandrasekharpur area and snatched away gold jewelleries worth lakhs. A person, Akshaya, who has a shop at BDA colony, barely escaped the murderous attack on him by the looters.
The miscreants in all the five cases attacked the persons who tried to help the victims with sharp weapons. Several such persons have sustained severe injuries as well. The looters even hurled stones towards people who opened their windows after hearing the noise outside. The citizens are completely in shock over the looting spree.
