Baripada, April 9: A five-year-old boy, who along with his mother remained missing from his native village Titiri under Kuliana block in Mayurbhanj about a year ago, was found brutally assaulted at his maternal grandmother’s house in Biswanathpur of West Bengal. An unknown youth had abandoned injured Karmu near her grandmother’s house.
Apparently subjected to severe torture, the boy carried injury marks on his head and neck. Six of his teeth were broken with head unusually swollen and a broken left leg. His head has been tonsured at places. Whipping marks were found all over the body. Two of his right hand fingers are not working. The brutalities have left him so shell-shocked that he is not able to remember his attackers.
The only word he says is ‘Nini’. Question arises as to who the assaulter is. Fingers are being pointed to his mother whose whereabouts are yet to be traced and the youth who dumped him.
A missing complaint had been lodged with Kuliana police April 29, 2014 after Kamala Behera, wife of Kamalakant Behera went missing along with her son Karmu. But no case was registered. A entry had been made in the station diary only.
His grandmother Srimati, who stayed with her daughter after getting a call from Biswanthpur Wednesday night that someone had left the boy in critical condition, brought him home and admitted him to a local hospital.
Srimati has lodged a complaint in this regard, alleging that her daughter-in-law had eloped with Nini Behera of Kamtar. She urged the police to punish those responsible for the brutal act.
The police are now trying to find reasons for the brutal attack on the innocent kid even as speculation is rife that a human trafficking racket is active in the area.
