Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal’s former MLA Navin Nanda who went missing while shopping in Kolkata Saturday was finally traced at a hotel there Sunday.
Family members heaved a sigh of relief after he was traced.
His mobile phones were found switched off even as his son Sambit left for Kolkata Sunday and traced him in the hotel where he was staying at Shakespeare Sarani in the city. The father-son duo is returning to the state Sunday.
Speaking to Dharitri over phone, Sambit said his father after making some purchases sent the goods in a Dhenkanal-bound bus from Kolkata Saturday afternoon.
Later, while he was moving around in the city and making further purchases, a pickpocket stole his father’s wallet containing ATM and Aadhaar cards besides two mobile phones. Nanda ran after the miscreant and followed him inside a hotel.
A team of city police, which was then conducting a raid in the hotel, detained Nanda and questioned him about his presence there.
He failed to contact his family members because he did not have his phones and the police did not allow him to use anyone else’s.
He was detained for the night and was allowed to go Sunday. He returned to the hotel Sunday and contacted his family members informing about his ordeal.
By that time though, his family members had gone to receive him from the airport Sunday and grew apprehensive after he did not turn up.
His son contacted the hotel where he was staying but was told he was not in. Sambit then proceeded to Kolkata and also lodged a missing complaint at the Shakespeare Sarani police station before finally tracing his father.
