Kendrapara: Tension prevailed at Balipatana under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district Sunday after a clash erupted between the activists of BJD and BJP before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival at Paradip.
Four motorbikes, two four-wheelers and a bus were damaged in the violence. According to sources, some BJP supporters allegedly obstructed the vehicle of Niali MLA Pramod Kumar Mallick and damaged it. They allegedly assaulted him and his supporters while the latter were on their way to Paradip to attend the inaugural function of IOCL’s refinery. The MLA was injured in the incident, police sources said.
Demanding action against the BJP activists, about 70 to 80 supporters of the MLA led by him went on a rampage at Tirtol police station when most of the personnel including the IIC were deployed to maintain law and order and control traffic.
The MLA’s supporters vandalised furniture and threw documents of the police station. They fled after locals came to the spot.
A case was registered in this regard at Tirtol police station against Mallick and his supporters. Police arrested six supporters of Mallick and also seized his vehicle, said IIC Abhinab Dalua.
Tirtol police registered two cases, including a case on the basis of an FIR by Mallick in which he alleged that BJP activists destroyed his vehicle and assaulted him and his supporters.
The six arrested persons are going to be produced in a court Monday while efforts are on to arrest others involved in vandalizing the police station, Dalua said. PNN
