Badasahi: A mob went on a rampage and vandalised the office of Kochilkunta electricity sub-station in Badasahi block of Mayurbhanj district Friday after a woman was critically hurt when she came in contact with a precariously dangling 33-KV transmission wire.
The injured Baby Nayak (35) was initially admitted to Badasahi CHC and later shifted to PRM Medical College and Hospital where her condition is stated to critical.
Tension prevailed in the locality following the incident with the locals accusing the distribution company of negligence in maintaining transmission lines. The agitating people stormed into the electricity office and damaged window panes, a TV set, and other assets.
They staged a blockade on Betanoti-Badashi road for hours by burning tyres. Vehicular movement came to a standstill on the route, while power supply remained disrupted for the whole day.
The agitators demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for the woman and stern action against the staff.
They pointed out that 33KV transmission lines drawn from Kochilkhunta sub-station to Badasahi have been dangling just 5 ft above the road for a long time, but the distribution company has not set the thing right.
Baby’s husband works in Madhya Pradesh while she lives with her four children and mother-in-law.
Meanwhile, the staff of Betanoti electricity section and Badashi electricity section passed the buck on each other over the lack of maintenance of supply lines.
Villagers said the spot of the mishap comes under the jurisdiction of Kochilakhunta sub-station.
Badasahi IIC and Betanoti SDPO rushed to the spot and brought situation under control.
