New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega video conference Thursday with BJP workers attracted a lot of flak from opposition leaders. Most of them said the PM should concentrate on getting the IAF pilot back from Pakistan’s custody.
Under the BJP’s ‘Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot’, Modi is slated to have direct dialogue through the ‘world’s largest video conference’ with about a crore of BJP workers, volunteers and others.
“I wud urge the PM to postpone this (programme). At this moment, we as a nation, need to spend all our energies and time to get the IAF pilot back safely and to sternly deal wid Pak (sic),” wrote Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on his Twitter handle.
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh had earlier Wednesday taken a dig at the BJP and Modi for the mega video-conference amid heightened tensions with Pakistan.
“The entire Opposition is concerned over national security. (Chief Minister) Arvind Kejriwal postponed his hunger strike over full-statehood issue. Congress cancelled its CWC and the Opposition is worrying about unity of the nation. Modi-ji is getting down to strengthen polling booths and the BJP is busy with election rallies,” Singh had tweeted.
BSP chief Mayawati also hit out at Modi for his proposed address to BJP workers. She termed it ‘ridiculous and betrayal of national sentiments’.
“At a time when India is facing hostility of war and country needs firm leadership, PM Narendra Modi instead of concentrating on the matters of national security trying to serve political interest by addressing his BJP workers is ridiculous besides betrayal of national sentiments (sic),” Mayawati wrote on Twitter.
“Indian forces foiled Pakistani attack yesterday it is a matter of big relief but an IAF pilot is under Pak custody is a matter of great concern. India should try to do its best at all levels to ensure safe return of the pilot only then the country will feel relief (sic),” she added.
