Cuttack, Jan 17: Justice PK Mohanty Commission probing the infamous Pipli gangrape and murder case Saturday issued a notice to former Pipli police inspector Amulya Kumar Champatiray directing him to depose before it February 6.

The commission’s order came after advocate Nishikant Mishra accused Champatiray of changing his statement and not cooperating with Crime Branch in the investigation.

The Puri superintendent of police (SP), deposing before the panel, had stated that Champatiray had declined to lodge the complaint when the victim’s family approached him following which the role of police came under scanner. Champatiray was terminated after he was found guilty of serious dereliction of duty, Mishra said. He also urged the commission to summon Champatiray.

In deference to an earlier order of the commission, Puri deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Manoranjan Samal, on behalf of superintendent of police (SP), submitted an affidavit pertaining to the case.

The affidavit stated that inspector Champatiray had failed to submit tour diary, but no action was taken against him.
