More than 20lakh ration cards at risk as e-KYC deadline ends today in Odisha

Ration card e-KYC exposes discrepancies

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra Monday warned that ration cards of beneficiaries who fail to complete e-KYC verification by the end of the day will be suspended for three months.

Addressing the media, Patra said that around 20.58 lakh beneficiaries in the state had yet to complete the mandatory e-KYC process. The deadline, set by the Central Government, ends today.

“As per the new rule, those who do not complete e-KYC will not receive rice under the public distribution system (PDS) from this month. The supply will remain suspended for three months,” the Minister said.

He further stated that the ration will be restored only after successful e-KYC completion. Failure to complete the process within three months will result in permanent cancellation of the ration card.

The state government has urged all eligible beneficiaries to immediately complete the verification to continue receiving subsidised food grains.

How to complete e-KYC of Ration Card

Beneficiaries must visit their designated Fair Price Shops for the e-KYC process, which involves:

ID submission: Providing a government-issued ID such as Aadhaar or a voter ID card.

Biometric verification: Including fingerprint and iris scanning.

The process aims to authenticate the identity of ration cardholders and ensure transparency in the PDS distribution system.
