Mother jumps into well and saves her son

Bolangir: In a daring act, a woman jumped into a 30-feet well to save her three-year-old son at Talapalipada area in this district.

The boy accidentally fell into the well while playing cricket with his friends Thursday evening.

The mother was identified as Champeswari Podha.

According to reports, Champeswari’s son Satish Podha fell into the well near his house courtyard. When Champeswari, who was with her minor daughter at home, heard the screams of the boy, she rushed to the spot.

Without giving a second thought, she jumped into the well and saved her son from drowning. At the same time, some locals gathered on the spot and threw a rope into the well. Holding her son on her waist with one hand, Champeswari clung to the rope with her other hand for several hours until a fire tender team reached the village and rescued them.

“We got an emergency call at 5:50 pm and we immediately rushed to the spot and found both the woman and boy in the well. We rescued both of them,” said fire officer Shyam Sundar Singh.

“I was inside the room when I heard that my son fell into the well. Without thinking much, I jumped into the well to rescue him,” said Champeswari.
