Bhubaneswar, April 19: The Institute of Oriya Study and Research (IOSR) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Centre for Modernising Government Initiative (CMGI) under the general administration department for extending its expertise in the general use of Oriya language into governmental activities /programmes.
Sources said the pact has been signed following Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s consent to use Oriya language for effective administration.
As per the MoU, both parties have developed an understanding and are committed to pursuing identified projects and activities under the joint endeavour, said a GA department official.
The pact has been inked by IOSR to coordinate and work with CMGI at the primary level to identify important fields in the government machinery where Oriya language will be used, and together the organisations will work out a blueprint for its implementation at the government-level.
“Both IOSR and CMGI will identify important fields where Oriya language will be used. IOSR will prepare an outline for the use of Oriya language in these fields with the help of Oriya linguists and researchers and technical advisors. Once it is approved, the language will be used in earmarked fields,” officials said.
While the IOSR will extend advice and expertise on the use of Oriya language at the administration level free of cost, resources and infrastructure will be provided by the government.
The use of Oriya at various field of administration will take place in a phased manner. In the first phase, official letters and gazettes will be translated.
Officials will be provided training for managing official paper works in Oriya language. Oriya Unicode Software will be installed in computers and officials and employees will also be trained.
