New Delhi: Bhadrak MP Arjun Charan Sethi (BJD) Friday in the Lok Sabha raised the issue of crimes against women and asked the Union government to take stringent measures to curb the same.
Sethi raised the issue during the Zero Hour of the Lower House. He said, “India has been witnessing a rising trend in crimes against women such as murder, rape, molestation and dowry deaths since 2006 of which, rape is the fastest growing crime in the country and as many as 18 women are assaulted in some form or the other every hour across the country. But measures taken by the government are not sufficient enough to curb the cases of crimes against women and children in the country.”
“I request the Prime Minister as well as the government to take prompt and immediate action in this regard so that these things are controlled and such cases are dealt with drastically,” he added.
The MP also stated that rape has been one of the most common crimes against women in India and one woman is raped every 29 minutes in our country. “Over the past few months, cases of rape and assault on children and their kidnapping and murder have increased drastically across the country despite the fact that the government has taken several measures to prevent such incidents,” the Parliamentarian said.
