Rourkela: Muktikanta Biswal, who is in New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister after undertaking a ‘padayatra’ of 1,550 km to remind him of the promises he had made to the people of Rourkela, feels let down as he is yet to get a chance to meet the PM.
He, however, is not one to be cowed down as he vowed not to return home until his goal is achieved. The Prime Minister’s Office is yet to take a call on his visit despite his ‘padayatra’ generating a lot of heat in the country.
He decided to sit on a hunger strike after he failed to meet the Prime Minister with the help of Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram. However, he is not getting permission for the hunger strike from Delhi Police not only in Jantar-Mantar but anywhere in the city.
When contacted, Muktikanta said his 71-day long ‘padayatra’ covering a distance of 1,550-km will never go in vain as he walked to New Delhi on foot braving the hot temperature of 45 degree Celsius only to remind the PM of his promises to the people of Rourkela in 2015. He hoped that he would be able to meet the Prime Minister with the blessings of the Rourkela residents.
The PM during his visit to the state in 2015 had promised to upgrade Ispat General Hospital (IGH), the lifeline of the people of Rourkela, into a medical college and a super specialty hospital and to construct the second Brahmani bridge at Panposh.
