Rengali/Sambalpur, Oct 15: A day after the murder of two contractual labourers of Bhushan steel plant in Sambalpur district, Thelkuli police Thursday cracked its mystery and arrested the accused.
“Lalit Mirdha and Selaun Dharua had clicked nude pictures of accused Narayan Rout alias Bapun of Routpada in Badasahi while the latter was asleep at night. Infuriated over the incident, Rout killed the duo when a dispute broke out over payment of arrears,” said sub-divisional police offcier (SDPO) Utkal Keshari Das and Thelkuli police station IIC RK Samal. The accused confessed to have killed the duo with an axe. Police seized the axe used in the crime.
The duo was killed at the
labour colony of the plant under Thelkuli police limits in the wee hours Wednesday.
Lalit (25) of Badasahi Dudhiamal and Selaun (25) alias Suru of Sadapali village under Jujumara police limits in Sambalpur district and Narayan were residing in the labour colony.
A few days ago, Selaun had clicked the nude picture of Narayan while the latter was asleep. Lalit and Selaun threatened Narayan of uploading his nude pictures on the Internet. Though Narayan had pleaded with the duo to delete the pictures, they
had not obliged. This incident had led to fights between Narayan and the duo.
Since then, the
accused was on the
lookout to avenge the act of the duo.
According to police, Lalit and Selaun had brought `4,800 from a contractor towards payment of arrears of some labourers. Narayan, after coming to know about it, met Lalit and demanded his arrear. Refusing to pay him, Lalit told Narayan that the money would be distributed in the presence of all labourers. Irked over the denial, Narayan picked up a fight with Lalit and hurled abuses at him.
The murder took place when Lalit and Selaun were sleeping in their room. In the wee hours Wednesday, the accused barged
into their room and hacked Selaun to death and made similar assaults on Lalit.
Lalit was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to Burla-based Veera Surendra Sai (VSS) Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 8.50 am. Thelkuli police station sub-inspector Bidu Bhusan Mishra had earlier suggested that the crime took place over payment of arrears.
