Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: Kahin na Jaa… Pancham Da — that was the theme of the tribute to legendary Bollywood singer-cum-music composer RD Burman, organised Monday evening in the city.
The rhythm of numbers made famous by RD Burman such as Kuch na kaho and Agar tum na hote filled the air at Rabindra Mandap and enthralled the audience that had gathered to revive their memories of the melodious numbers of the man who has left a mark on Bollywood music.
“The songs of Pancham Da have a different kind of energy in them. Many of his songs are performed with spirit, while there are also songs that need a delicate voice without which maintaining his pitch is very difficult,” said Gautam Giri, who performed numbers such as Agar tum na hote, Dilbar mere, Kuch na kaho, Lekar hum deewani dil and Wada karo nahin.
Pancham Da is a role model for all the singers, said another singer, Antara Chakraborti, who added that she is happy that she has been invited to such an event to pay tribute to a legend like RD Burman.
“Each of his song has a different touch to it. His songs are as sweet to the listeners as to us. He was the master of Indian cinema music and it’s an honour to me that I am here singing his compositions,” said Chakraborti, who sang Pyar karne wale and Tere bina zindegi se.
The love for the legend came also from the hundreds of music lovers who had gathered to listen to the songs of RD Burman. “I am a big fan of RD Burman. His music can touch the soul of a person, unlike the compositions of these days that have no meaning. Pancham Da has the power to attract the masses and the magic to touch the spirit of a person,” said Ganajanana Satpathy.
“There is a lot of hidden talent that does not get a chance to come into the limelight because of various reasons. We have organised this programme to highlight that talent and chose RD Burman’s songs as he is the master of Indian cinema music and youngsters can learn a lot from him,” said Pragati president GP Bhanjachowdhary.
The other singers at the event included Suraj Das, Sudhansu Marik, Shiv Patnaik and Sweta Mishra.
