Buguda: Mystery shrouds the death of a poacher who had gone missing during a hunting expedition with a youth at Bhagabanpur under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district.
The body of the deceased, identified as Gopal Nayak (55), was found buried Tuesday in a pit near Raniganda of Baghua River by locals who informed the police. Police seized the body in the presence of tehsildar Sangram Keshari Jena, who was officiating as the executive magistrate and sent it for post-mortem.
Family members cried foul over the death as his widow Bhagyalata Nayak lodged a complaint against his friend Kedar Pradhan at Buguda police station.
Police who registered a case and detained Kedar suspect Gopal might have been electrocuted after getting entangled in the live wires and Kedar might have buried the body to cover up the incident.
According to reports, Gopal accompanied Kedar Saturday night to poach wild animals by laying live wires. He, however, failed to return home. Family members searched for him at various places but in vain. When they found his bicycle at a Shiva temple and his torch light on a farmland, they questioned Kedar.
Police said the reason behind the death will be uncovered after receiving the post-mortem report.
