Puri: In a first, a Nano film festival on child rights will be organised here from December 8 to 10.
Sources said, various organisations, both government and non-government, and filmmakers will host the first-of-its-kind film festival in the Pilgrim city. The screening of films will be held at the Town Hall, sources added.
Selected films will be screened between 11am and 2pm, sources said, adding that students from 57 schools in the city will watch the films. The screening will be followed by discussions between filmmakers and children during 3pm to 5pm on all the three days. The films on child rights will be screened for the general audience and adults during the evenings, said coordinator of the programme Sanjeev Rathsharma at a press conference here Wednesday.
Speaking about the nomination of the films Sharma said, “A panel has been formed to choose the films for screening. We have received 100 entries on films on child rights so far. Now, the committee will select the films to be exhibited during the festival.”
On the occasion, awards will be presented to young talents. The Orissa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which is one of the organisers, will arrange for a drawing competition on the theme of child rights on the occasion of World Human Rights Day December 10.
The Commission will give away prizes to the winners and the photographs of the winners will find place in the bulletin published by the body, sources said.
Further, people working in the films on child rights will also be felicitated during the festival. The inmates of 14 childcare institutions in the district will also take part in the festival. The festival has set a target to beam the films to 3,000 children, Sharma added.
Childline director Debasis Rath, Rotary Club president Bhaktacharan Das and Nehru Yuva Kendra coordinator Jayshankar Joshi, among others, were present at the press conference.
