Cuttack: The police have allegedly dropped the name of the prime accused from the charge sheet in the sensational Narayan Das murder case at Sarakora village in Niali police limits.
The police recently filed the preliminary charge sheet in the case in which they deleted the name of the prime accused and tampered with the names of the witnesses because of political pressure, alleged Reena Das, widow of the deceased.
Reena tried to immolate herself in front of the director general of police’s (DGP) office here Monday stating that the deletion of name of the prime accused and tampering of witnesses would deprive her of justice.
According to sources, Reena April 23 had submitted a plea in the DGP’s office stating that she would immolate herself in front of the DGP’s office. Accordingly, the policemen had kept buckets of water and, blankets and deployed personnel to prevent her from taking the step.
As soon as the widow reached the DGP office, she was taken inside where additional DG Satyajit Mohanty held discussion with her in the presence of SP (rural) Madhab Chandra Sahu and Niali police station inspector-in-charge.
Mohanty directed the SP (rural) to re-record the statement of Reena under Section 161. She would also present the names of the witnesses in the case Wednesday.
The statement will be recorded in the office of the SP. Mohanty directed the SP (rural) to take all necessary arrangements for recording the statement.
Notably, Narayan and his brother were on their way back home from market on the night of March 4, 2017 when miscreants from Kunjiapatna had hacked him to death.
While one of the accused has surrendered in court, others are yet to be arrested. “They are roaming freely in the village. While the name of the prime accused was mentioned in the complaint, his name was dropped from the charge sheet due to political pressure,” the widow of the deceased alleged.
