Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain dedicated new amenities at Bhubaneswar railway station, including a second entry, a new building, booking office outside platform 6 and other, to the public Saturday.
Simultaneously, the two Union ministers also dedicated a new ticketing system at Sakhigopal railway station to the public through video conferencing from Bhubaneswar.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan praised the Railways for infrastructural development in the region and urged the minister to speed-up the pending projects in the state by directing the Railway Board to review them continuously.
According to him, both Railways and state government should work in tandem to solve the problem of land acquisition issue, which is a major bottleneck for railway projects anywhere. At the same time, he appreciated the efforts of East Coast Railway for planning a 6-meter wide foot over bridges from platform 1 to platform 6 at Bhubaneswar and another such foot over bridge at Bhadrak.
Praising the state government’s role in saving the ancient building of Assamese poet Bezbarua in Sambalpur, Gohain highlighted the similarities between Assam and Orissa. He then went on to speak highly on the performance of East Coast Railway for the development of railways in the region.
“Fund for the projects in this region will not be a constraint. Railway Ministry will provide full support for infrastructural development,” Gohain said, adding, the on-going projects in this region will be completed on target dates.
New station building at platform No. 6 has been completed at a cost of Rs. 1.97 crore. Similarly, the new station building at Sakhigopal station has been completed at a cost of Rs. 1.55 crore.
