Bhubaneswar, July 12: The Mahanadi Hall of residence and Subarnarekha Hall of residence at Arugul is set to be crowded with the students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar as the authorities here have decided to begin the shifting process from July 15.
The shifting of students from their present campuses and hostels to the new campus of IIT-Arugul on the outskirts of the city will begin July 15 whereas 642 students of various other streams will also be shifted. The room allotment for the students has already been completed, claim IIT-Bhubaneswar officials.
The hostel facilities will be available for only registered students. A B.Tech student can occupy a room only during a semester, but he or she will have to vacate the room during vacation unless the student is engaged in any project or related work.
Similarly, M.Tech students will be permitted to occupy the rooms for a maximum of two years. However, they can retain their rooms if they needed for academic requirements. The Ph.D and MS scholars will be allotted the rooms for a maximum of four years.
Guests of the boarders may be allowed to stay in the hostel’s guest room for a short duration of one or two days while visitors may be allowed up to the visitor’s room. The visit of male students to the women’s hostel and vice versa will be allowed only between 7am and 9am.
The IIT authorities have also introduced strict anti-ragging rules violation of which may lead to expulsion of the students from the halls and the institute as well. Any fresher facing such ragging should complain to the hostel authorities, non-reporting of which shall also be considered an offence on the part of the victim.
The authorities have also banned smoking, consumption of alcoholic drinks, drugs, gambling, violence or intimidation, willful damage to property, entering hostel in an intoxicated state, using abusive language and use of two-wheelers or motorcycles on the premises.
